I took a standup class to cope with the end of the world

My climate dread was becoming unbearable. I never thought I would do comedy, but what if I channeled my anxiety into something lighter?

If you had told me six months ago that I would soon be performing standup comedy to dozens of strangers, I would have assumed it was a bad dream.

Public speaking ranks about as high as driving in rush hour traffic through downtown Boston on my list of favorite activities. That I would choose to do standup, with its potential for public humiliation, is basically unimaginable.
